Three questions you can answer without knowing any rates

Asking someone whether their pay rate is right assumes they know what the rate should be, and most people do not — 11.6% of young workers could name the minimum wage. These three ask about things you already know, and each answer is matched to what the law requires rather than to anything about you.

01Do you get a payslip each time you are paid?

A payslip counts whether it arrives on paper, by email, or in an app you have to log into. If you have never seen one, that is a no.

02Are you paid in cash?

Cash in an envelope or handed over at the end of a shift. Being paid in cash is lawful and common in some industries — on its own it raises nothing here.

03Is superannuation being paid into your fund?

Not what the payslip says: what your fund says. Log in to your super account, or check the balance in the ATO section of myGov, and look for a payment after your last few paydays.
